Using plastic containers and bringing healthy snacks to school are the easiest options you have to minimise the amount of rubbish in your lunch box,but if you have something in your lunch box that really must be wrapped it's best to just use cling foil so you could quickly take your wrapper off and leave it in your lunch box to dispose of when you get home.
I think it is a good idea to make my lunch box full of food that doesn't have wrappers that need to go in the bin. But I really like cheese dippy biscuits - so I will still have them sometimes and just take the wrapper home with me in my lunchbox.
I think a good way to not use wrappers is by putting them in a plastic contiainer. I put my chips, roll ups, sometime a litle treat and fruit in 3 or 4 different lunch boxs so when it come to outside time I don't have to miss out on my yummy snack.
I think bringing containers instead of wrappers is a good idea, although taking your rubbish home is a good idea too. All of this is doing good for the environment.
I'm bringing tall containers full of my snacks, and then a thermos with my lunch in it. I think bringing healthy food is better for the enviroment and better for people as well. I have some ideas for bringing your food: put it in a small container, bring fruit, bring a hot lunch(in a thermos).
Though I support cleaning the earth and such, I do beleive that getting rid plastics is not the answer. It is a bit of a nuisance to open everything and then put it in a box. I think the right answer is to teach kids to not litter when they are young, not only will it stop them littering now but for the rest of their lives.
Congratulations to all of the students who have supported Parktone's new rubbish free initiative. The school grounds have been wrapper free and it is wonderful to see the increase in children munching on cheese, fruit and vegetables during recess and lunch instead of processed foods. Well done!
I think it is good thing that our school is a rubbish free school it's showing our part to the environment. We can use containers to put all our food in instead of wrapping and it is also cutting the amount of junk food that we bring to school ‘cause most junk foods come in packaging .Hope to see more healthy food like fruit and yogurt been eaten.
What an amazing difference we are making. On our measuring day, we had in excess of 6 kilograms of rubbish generated from wrappers. We now of course have zero. This means that just this term alone, Parktone PS will save 300kg of rubbish going to landfill. That's an incredible 1.2 ton in a year. Well done everyone!
I will make sure I don't bring food in wrappers to school. I've stopped taking yoghurt in the plastic containers and I've put my yoghurt in a reusable container. I think it is a good idea because the school is cleaner and the neighbours aren't bothered by litter.
Thanks Kira, People that live near schools often have a problem with litter blowing into their yards. People living near Parktone will certainly appreciate your efforts.
I don't like rubbish everywhere around our school. There were zero pieces of rubbish on the ground today. I have a lunch box with no rubbish in it. It has little boxes in it for my snacks and lunch. My sandwich wrapper is a bag I take home and we use it more than once.
My mum is going to start putting my sandwiches, biscuits and any other snacks in reusable containers. If I have any plastic bags or wrappers I take them home to either have them thrown away or reused (if they can be).
From now on i am going to bring everything in containers and make sure they returen home with me.I will eat more fresh foods which will have less wrappers to dispose of.
I have been very impressed with the amount of rubbish in the playground. Even though it was hard for the first few days it is worth it. I have been bringing healthy snacks because most of the junk food is wrapped.
The rubbish free school is a very good way of cleaning up our yards also a way of making healthier lunches being put in our lunchboxes like carrot and celery sticks. Our school is now much healthier and cleaner because of the rubbish free school and I think every school should be a rubbish free school.
When I take chips for my play lunch my mum puts it in a plastic container. I sometimes bring milk to school and have it for lunch but I have to bring the rubbish back home.
I will bring my food in containers and take home any rubbish at the end of the day. Also I could eat more fresh fruit. This should help keep the school clean.
All my food is put in plastic containers so there is no rubbish. I actually like it because i dont have to open packets. That way our school doesnt have rubbish outside.
I think everybody should not bring any rappers to school & we should bring food in plastic containers like I do because inside my lunch box it is all yucky so I put my lunch a container.
Ava I think it is a good idea to not bring wrappers to school because it can make our school more cleaner. I am not going to bring any wrappers to school. If I want to bring yogart to school I will put it in a container.
In response to anonymous, I agree this isn't the ultimate answer, but it is certainly a major step forward. Inevitabley some parents will still choose pre packaged foods to provide for their children. However, witnessing the amount of fresh food and the like that students are now bringing to school, not only has the amount of pre packaged foods being purchased by parents decreased, kids are now eating much healthier choices.
Parktone Primary opened in 1961, in a quiet residential street of Parkdale. The school grounds are spacious and attractive. Traditional classrooms have been transformed into stimulating learning centres incorporating computer technology. Our motto 'Always Moving Forward' defines the mindset of our teachers, parents and students. We are always moving forward in our understanding and in the ways we work together.
My mum puts my sandwich, yoghurt and muesli bar in a plastic container. And is trying really hard to make me muffins, instead of buying them.

My goal for 2010 is to practice my hand writing, and to be able to write neatly.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't the answer, rubbish is simply taken open and disposed of there. It still goes to landfill.
